Would our RF (Radio Frequency) Energy Harvesting Solutions be right for you?

Let’s assume that you work with battery powered IoT wireless devices that operate within wireless waves rich environments. Without energy harvesting, you need to replace the batteries of those devices, because they run out of energy. This generates operational costs.

But there might be enough of energy provided by the wireless emitters surrounding your devices that you could use to power them.

  • The AEM40940 integrates an RF rectifier and allows you for harvesting energy from -19dBM up to 5dBm using a properly selected external antenna and balun.

Use Cases

Electronic Shelf Label (ESL)


Electronic Shelf Label, or ESL, is a label comprised of electronic paper-like display panel, wireless communication module and energy storage element. ESL can dynamically display the name of products, their prices or relevant QR codes or barcodes where shoppers can use their smart phones to scan to acquire more information. Primary applications of ESL now includes retail malls, supermarkets, convenience stores, drugstores, etc. Each label can replace traditional paper based price tags and be connected onto a server or the cloud, and timely updates its prices to reflect real-time price or sales information. ESL can effectively reduce labor and material costs and increase not only management efficiency but its brand image and consumer interactions.

In addition to retail applications, such electronic paper display can also be used in other scenarios, such as hospital, outdoor transportation spots, etc. Patient information tags or Bus arrival time updates are all perfect examples of where such labels can be used for smart health or smart city applications.

E-peas Solutions

E-peas is compatible with RF energy harvesting solutions, where an IoT ESL device can be remotely supplied with power at a distance, permitting users a more agile and flexible approach to design its applications. AEM30940 for RF Harvesting

E-peas’ RF energy harvesting IC solution – AEM30940 – is an integrated energy management subsystem that extracts DC power from ambient RF waves to simultaneously store energy in a rechargeable element and supply the system with two independent regulated voltages. This allows product designers and engineers to extend battery lifetime and ultimately get rid of the primary energy storage element in a large range of wireless applications like industrial monitoring, home automation, wearables.


Ultra-low-power start-up

  • Cold start from 380 mV input voltage and 3 µW input power (typical) 
  • RF input power from -18.5dBm up to 10dBm (typical)

Ultra-low-power Boost regulator

  • Open circuit voltage sensing for MPPT every 0.33 s
  • Configurable MPPT with 2-pins programming
  • Selectable Voc ratios of 50, 65 or 80 %
  • Input voltage operation range from 50 mV to 5V
  • MPPT voltage operation range from 50 mV to 5V
